SA’s Royal Commission into domestic, family and sexual violence

The South Australian Royal Commission into domestic, family and sexual violence started on 1 July 2024. Embolden will be sharing news and updates on our website throughout the Royal Commission.

Systemic change is desperately needed in our state to ensure that women and their children can live safely and without fear.

The Royal Commission will enable us to thoroughly understand the barriers to safety for women, children and others experiencing violence right across our entire service system – both specialist services and our health, mental health, child protection and justice systems.

The Commissioner, Natasha Stott Despoja AO, will deliver her report to the South Australian Government on 1 July 2025, making recommendations about what needs to change to create a safer community.

Submissions

The Royal Commission is now accepting written submissions and has released a Background Paper and Issues Paper. Initial written submissions in response to the Issues Paper are due by Friday 16 August 2024. All other written submissions are due Friday 27 September 2024. The Commission will also launch an online ‘Share With Us’ tool in September. ‘Share With Us’ will invite responses to questions about the domestic, family and sexual violence service systems in South Australia and prompt people to provide any other information they would like to share – in writing or by audio or video message.
