On 12 December, the State Government released its response to the Royal Commission into domestic, family and sexual violence. Embolden welcomes the State Government’s acceptance – either wholly, in part or in principle – of 129 of the Royal Commission’s 136 recommendations and commitment of $674m over 10 years.
Around one third of the accepted recommendations are for future consideration, with many of these focused on prevention, earlier intervention and addressing barriers to service access. Responding to crisis is vital, but we must strengthen the focus on intervening earlier and supporting victim-survivors’ recovery and healing if we are to change the trajectory of domestic, family and sexual violence in South Australia. This is a generational opportunity to prevent violence and protect current and future generations from harm.
Our sector looks forward to continuing to work with the State Government in close partnership, to create a service system that intervenes earlier, is more accessible, integrated and flexible, and that supports victim-survivors to recover and heal for a safer future.
