National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022-2032 draft and consultation process

The Australian Government is developing the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022-2032 (National Plan) to replace the existing National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010–2022 when it ends in mid-2022. Today, they have released a draft of this National Plan.

The Plan is being developed in consultation with the sector and broader community through a number of mechanisms including the National Plan Advisory Group, the 2021 Women’s Safety Summit, and a public survey, for which submissions open today Friday 14 January and close on 31 January 2022.

Past iterations of the National Plan have led to flagship initiatives such as Our Watch, the national leader in primary prevention of violence against women and their children, and 1800 RESPECT, the national telephone and online counselling service for people who have experienced, or are at risk of, sexual assault and/or domestic and family violence, their family and friends, and frontline and isolated workers. Crucially, the First National Plan (2010-2022) was underpinned by an evidence-based approach acknowledging understanding of the gendered drivers of violence against women.

Embolden will be making a submission in consultation with our members and stakeholders including survivors of domestic, family and sexual violence. Individuals and organisations are also encouraged to make their own submissions and participate in the survey through the link below. We look forward to the Government listening and deeply engaging with women’s voices and the domestic, family and sexual violence sector to ensure the effectiveness of the next National Plan in the shared goal of eradicating all forms of violence against women and their children in Australia.
