July Update: Transition to Independence

Embolden formally transitioned to being a fully independent peak for SA’s domestic, family and sexual violence services sector on 1 July. We would like to acknowledge Women’s Safety Services SA’s important role in auspicing the peak function and providing a collective voice for our sector over several decades.

Embolden had the privilege of visiting OARS Community Transitions’ new transitional accommodations and support service, WorkPlace. WorkPlace provides accommodation and wraparound supports – including employment, alcohol and other drug (AOD) services, and family and domestic violence (FDV) support – for men exiting prison on Parole or Release Order Home Detention. We value the opportunity to see firsthand how tailored reintegration support can align with our shared goal of ending gendered violence.

Embolden also welcomed the opportunity to meet with the Social Workers Registration Board this month. We were pleased to see the introduction of an additional category of Limited Registration, designed to support existing employees who are not currently eligible for other types of registration to continue working within social work services. Embolden will be working with the SWRB to schedule specific information sessions for sector members in September or October. In the meantime, we encourage you to visit the new SWRB website and to read the new resources including the Guide to Social Worker Registration. Further information about general information sessions can be found in the SWRB update in this newsletter.

Finally, Mary presented to the Premier’s Council for Women and discussed the current landscape for specialist domestic, family and sexual violence services. Embolden looks forward to continuing discussions with the Premier’s Council over time, as SA implements the Royal Commission’s recommendations.
