January Update: Honouring lives taken and looking forward

In January, In January, several Embolden members participated in SA’s Pay Our Respects event, gathering on the steps of Parliament House to honour and remember the Australian women whose lives were tragically cut short by domestic, family and sexual violence in 2024. This annual tribute, which names and honours each woman, remains a poignant reminder of our collective national shame—the disproportionate number of First Nations women murdered in our country.

As we reflect on these losses, we are also looking ahead with determination and hope. Embolden is proud to announce our new partnership with The Hatchery in bringing the Ending Coercive Control, Family & Domestic Violence Conference to South Australia this May. Scheduled for May 7–8, the conference will serve as an essential platform for sharing insights and strategies to combat coercive control and domestic violence.

Embolden will also host a Domestic & Family Violence Candlelight Vigil on May 7 in the Adelaide CBD (location to be confirmed). Marking Domestic and Family Violence Remembrance Day, the vigil will begin with arrivals from 5:15 PM, followed by a solemn ceremony starting at 5:30 PM and concluding at 6:15PM, with a brief period for informal connection until 6:30 PM. This gathering is an opportunity for our community to come together, honour the lives lost, and renew our commitment to building safer futures. More details regarding the event can be found here.
