WSSSA Strangulation Awareness and Response Training

Women’s Safety Services are running a course for external practitioners on Strangulation Awareness and Response.

This is a specialised course in understanding and responding to this key high risk factor. Listen to the latest research on strangulation, as well as a practice framework for responding to disclosures. Participants will learn the signs, symptoms and physiological consequences of strangulation, and key health information, resources and referral options. This course is fundamental learning for anyone who supports people subjected to domestic and family violence.

The course is being held on November 1st 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm and facilitated by Interpersonal Violence Nurse Practitioner Tracey Markham (Yarrow Place) and Senior Domestic and Family Violence specialist Claire Gardner (Women’s Safety Services SA – Eastern Adelaide Domestic Violence Service). 

If you work with families impacted by domestic and family violence then this course contains fundamental knowledge on understanding strangulation, the potential medical consequences, and how best to respond.
