Domestic & Family Violence Vigil

4 May 2022
5:30pm–6:30pm

Place of Courage, Rotary Park, Christie’s Beach
1 Beach Rd
Christies Beach, SA

For over 10 years, the first Wednesday in May has been an occasion for Australians around the nation to commemorate those lost to domestic and family violence.

On this day, we remember and grieve for all who have lost their lives to domestic and family violence, and we hold space for all survivors and those who have lost loved ones.

This year, we are honoured to be holding the Vigil at the Place of Courage – Ripple – commemorative public artwork in Rotary Park, Christie’s Beach, with our event partners Spirit of Woman.  This public artwork provides a place for survivors, families and communities affected by domestic and family violence to grieve, find solace, heal, connect and educate. This important event will be a time to gather and listen to the voices of lived experience as we remember and honour those whose lives have been lost, through speeches, music and a candlelit vigil.

This year’s guest speakers include Voices for Change SA lived experience advocates, Heather Oxenham, Helen Oxenham OAM, and The Honourable Katrine Hildyard MP — Minister for Child Protection; Minister for Women and the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence; Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing.

The Vigil is a free, child friendly, inclusive and accessible community event.

This event will be livestreamed, with a link shared to registered attendees.

Whether you join us in person, virtually, or in spirit only, we invite you to light a candle, take a moment of silence, and #StandByUs.

We invite you to share your candles, flowers, words and reflections with the hashtags #VigilSA and #LightACandle2022 to connect with others during the event.

The Vigil will be followed by a BBQ provided by the Rotary Club of Morphett Vale.

Please dress appropriately for an outdoor, all-weather event.
